End of an Era

with 4 comments

The Fat Lady hasn’t sung yet, but it looks as though my car has gone to the great petrol station in the sky. At approximately 2:45 pm today, a kind gentleman decided to not use his brakes at a red light - that I had stopped at. The damage was extensive, although there were no injuries other than a stretched neck for myself, and a rather scared couple of pedestrians when my car started moving forwards. I haven’t spoken to the insurance people yet, but my guess is a write-off: it is an elderly car…

Audi 80, I’ll miss you. Sniff.

My car :-(

More car woes?

without comments

I borrowed my boss’s GPS to go down to the ‘rents for the weekend, as I was temporarily halfway there.
Unfortunately, it had snowed quite heavily the preceding few days.
Not to worry, I thought: German car, Quebec experience, only a couple of inches of snow, and that would all have been cleared by now, wouldn’t it?
Well. The main roads were (quite) clear, certainly. The GPS, however, decided that the absolute best way to the middle of the countryside was down the not so main roads - in fact, although I’m not sure, I think that at one point I was really driving through a field. I’m not sure, though, because the field was not cleared - just frozen solid…
In other news, I have discovered the difference between driving in Quebec in winter and driving in France in winter: in Quebec, cars have winter tyres…

Long time no poetry

without comments

Little Willie from his mirror licked the mercury right off
Thinking in his childish error it would cure the whooping cough
At his funeral his mother smartly said to Mrs Brown
“Twas a chilly day for Willie when the mercury went down.”

Anon, of course.
