Title bars and wide screens
I have finally got round to thinking of all those poor people who use wide screens to read my blog. You see, those people see a really messed up title bar. The poor guys.
In other news, I’ve just bought myself a 19″ wide TFT…
Anyway, a perfect opportunity to try out my latest plugin :
How much autonomy should teenagers have?
Is it OK for them to go out alone without warning those in charge? Should there be anybody in charge anyway?
How mature is a 13 y.o.? How about a 17 y.o.? Is it reasonable to lump them together, as ‘teenagers’?
Why does the relationship between a teen and an adult so often go wrong? What is it about authority figures?

Remiss
That’s what I’ve been. Remiss.
Let’s have some news.
- I have updated Wordpress to the latest version - at last.
- The preparations for camp are going well; as it’s a geek camp, we’ve created a wiki where the youngsters can participate and sumbit ideas as to what they want to do. I don’t know how many people have visited the wiki since we opened it - but the stats from the host that has the wiki (and a few other things) have gone through the roof, comparatively.
- The parent’s PC now has a Beta version of Kubuntu Edgy, with no Windows at all. This is rather pleasing to me, as I was getting rather fed up of having to support Windows, about which I know less and less.
- About that PC - why the hell can’t I get the spdif port to work? No spdif = no DTS, of course, so it’s a right royal pain…
- I tried to upgrade my own PC to Edgy. The upgrade wasn’t successful. So I’ll wait until the stable version is released (on the 24th, I think).
- On my camps, we take lots of photos, and upload them to a webserver every day, so that the parents can look at them. Obviously, that means that someone has to sit down and get them to a reasonable size for web viewing. That person has been replaced, as the T-shirt would have it, by a very small shell script : jpgshrink
- I’m stll looking for someone to employ, I think. So if you have experience of French summer camps, and if you’re a bit of a geek, then drop me a cv macdo10{at}free.fr.

Hurrah for Ubuntu
So, as a change, I’m bossing a teen geek camp at the end of October.Ahha, I thought, and applied for 60 Ubuntu CDs.
Rather to my surprise, they turned up (the surprise was to do with the less-than-two-weeks-delay, not the actual turning up). With an extra few Ubuntu stickers as well!
So this is an official thank-you post.
Thank You Ubuntu!
